How do I become an agent?

In order to sell insurance, you must be properly licensed. To be a remote agent you will need either a 20-44 Personal Lines or a 2-20 General Lines, Property and Casualty.

What’s a 20-44?

A 20-44 means that you are authorized to sell property and casualty insurance. This license takes approximately 60 study hours.

What’s a 2-20?

A 2-20 means that you are authorized to sell commercial or business insurance as well as property and casualty. This license takes approximately 200 study hours.

How do I get licensed?

A great deal of information can be found here: https://www.myfloridacfo.com/division/agents/ but let’s cover the basics.

You can choose which license suits you best as well as your method of study. Licensing courses are available to take in the classroom, online or self-study and typically start around $129.

Here is one of the most cost-effective online courses we have found. https://adbanker.com/pre-licensing.aspx#.FL.FC Your local adult learning facility may have other options.

After you pass your exam, you will need to be fingerprinted through IdentoGO. More information can be found here: https://www.myfloridacfo.com/division/agents/Licensure/Agents-Adjusters/fingerprinting.htm

Finally, you apply for your license by applying here: https://www.myfloridacfo.com/division/agents/Licensure/myProfileHelp/default.htm

There they are. Just 3 steps between you and the freedom that being an independent agent can give you.

What kind of insurance would I sell?

Our 20-44 remote agents sell home & auto policies while our 2-20 agents are able to sell business insurance in addition to home and auto policies.

What companies do you carry?

Carpenter Insurance is appointed with nearly 100 carriers throughout Florida including familiar names like Tower Hill, People’s Trust and Progressive. We continue to grow and seek appointments with other carriers to ensure our customers continue to receive the best price and service.

How much will I be paid?

The Remote Independent Agent position is commission-based. Carpenter Insurance offers a very generous structure of 80% for new business and 20% on renewal.

Where can I write policies?

Anywhere in Florida! Not only can policies be written for homes, vehicles and businesses throughout Florida, but you can be anywhere within the state, too.

Will I be trained?

Yes. After you’re licensed and sign with Carpenter Insurance, we give you full access to our training guides and videos as well as providing help with the quoting and binding process.

What if I need help?

Part of what Carpenter Insurance offers you is the backing of a full office support staff. Eileen is happy to help. She’s the General Manager and has been with Carpenter Insurance since its inception.

What exactly would I have to do?

The short answer is “find & bind”. This means you find policies by self-marketing and you bind them with the carrier. You will have a processor assigned to you so that after a policy is bound, you just set a task for them, send them the documents and they take it from there. The goal is for you to be able to move from policy to policy quickly and let the office take care of the rest.

I still have questions. Who can I talk to?

Kelly Duffy will be happy to answer any of your questions or provide more details. She can be reached by emailing: RemoteIndAgent@gmail.com

Sounds great! How do I sign up?

We try to limit the number of agents we have in one area. If you’re not yet licensed, you can still be listed as an applicant so that we can keep a spot for you while you study. Send an email to Kelly Duffy (RemoteIndAgent@gmail.com) and she’ll make sure you are ready to go as soon as your Florida license is ready.

If you’re already licensed, send your details to RemoteIndAgent@gmail.com and someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible to schedule an interview.
