What are the Florida Boat & Personal Watercraft Insurance Coverage Options?
Boat and Personal Watercraft (PWC) Insurance policies can vary widely from company to company. Don’t trust that your homeowner’s policy will cover your needs. Typically your homeowners policy only offers limited coverage and won’t protect you from total loss or injuries and accidents that occur on the water.
Boat & Personal Watercraft (PWC) Coverage Options*
Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability – Covers your liability for an accident that involves injury to another person or damage to someone’s property, up to the limit of liability you select.
Uninsured/Underinsured Boater – Protects you if you are injured or your boat is damaged by another boater who has no or inadequate insurance coverage.
Medical Payments – Pays the cost of necessary medical care you receive as a result of a boating accident and can be used regardless of who is at fault. Covered people include the named policyholder and anyone in the boat at the time of the accident and will cover injuries caused while water skiing or tubing.
Comprehensive & Collision Options – Pays for damage to your boat if you’re involved in an accident or another covered loss like fire, theft or vandalism, regardless of who is at fault. You only pay your deductible. Options for this coverage include deductibles, coverage for actual value, agreed value and total loss/purchase price.
Personal Effects Replacement – Pays for loss of or damage to personal effects while on board an insured boat or while being carried on or off an insured boat.
On-Water Towing & Labor Coverage Service – Pays set amount toward towing and labor costs, depending on the amount of coverage chosen. Labor coverage applies when work is performed at the time and place of disablement, while the boat is in the water. On-Water Towing and Labor Coverage is a reimbursement coverage.
Roadside Assistance – Provides towing to the nearest qualified repair facility and covers necessary labor at the time and place of disablement when the tow vehicle or boat trailer is disabled due to any of the following: Mechanical or electrical breakdown, Battery failure, Insufficient supply of fuel, oil, water or other fluids, Flat tire, Lockout, or lost or stolen keys, Entrapment in snow, mud, water or sand within 100 feet of the roadway.
This coverage typically extends to the tow vehicle while transporting the insured boat/PWC, even if the tow vehicle is insured with another insurance company.
Fishing Equipment – Pays for loss or damage to fishing equipment while on board, or while being carried on or off, an insured boat.
Fuel Spill Liability – Covers unintentional oil or fuel spills resulting in bodily injury or property damage for which you are legally responsible because of an accident arising out of the ownership, maintenance or use of your insured boat.
Wreckage Removal – Pays for reasonable costs you incur for any attempted raising, removal or destruction of the wreckage of your insured boat or PWC.
Water Sports – Covers bodily injury or property damage caused by someone towed by the insured watercraft for activities such as water skiing, knee boarding, wake boarding or tubing.
Navigational Area – Covers you when you boat on all inland lakes, rivers and navigable waterways in the continental United States and Canada, including ocean waters 75 miles or less from each country’s coast.
Pet Injury Coverage – Pays for veterinary bills, up to a set amount, if your dog or cat gets hurt in a boat incident that’s covered by your Comprehensive and Collision coverage, such as a crash, theft, fire, or flood.
